Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

The Educated Cave-lady’s MFA show is one week away!
May 3rd to 11th at the University of Victoria, Visual Arts Building

Au Secours:
It all began with one word, HELP, painted as large as the space would allow in clear, semi-gloss paint. Almost invisible, it reflected the emptiness of the institutional space I was to call my studio for the next two years; a space that wasn’t built for me. I wasn’t comfortable there, I couldn’t make what I needed to make. Slowly, carefully, I crafted that space into something that was part home, part studio, and part gallery; a room of my own. A place to accommodate my practice and my needs: sitting, thinking, making, reading, eating, stretching, icing, heating. PAIN. A place I could make visible, the invisible.

Things aren’t all so tangible and sayable as people would usually have us believe; most experiences are unsayable, they happen in a space that no word has ever entered, and more unsayable than all other things are works of art, those mysterious existences, whose life endures beside our own small, transitory life.

Today, while putting in my print order for a couple of these pieces (for the Kinsey show), I decided that the Strange Flesh series is finished.

The Educated Cave-lady commissioned my preparator skills these past few weeks to help her finish up a few pieces she has produced this year.  I thought I’d share (click the photo’s for more details).

You can see more of her work here.

Well, after a couple scribbles and many emails, Francis Regnault of FR Contemporary | Virtual Gallery, based out of Fribourg, Switzerland, has published my page on his gallery’s website.  Check it out.
This is going to be a bit of an adventure!

Yesterday, I received confirmation that two of my pieces have been selected to appear in The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show 2013 at the Grunwald Gallery of Art at the Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

… but you’ll just have to wait and see which ones!

The world is beautiful but not sayable. That’s why we need art.

    Studio tunes for today.

Sasha, thanks for posting that fantastic drawing that jogged my memory!  I haven’t listened to this album in almost 15 years.
